Principal's Report

Happy Mother's Day

What a great start to the day we had this morning with our super delicious P&C Mother’s Day Breakfast! It was great to see so many families come together for this special event on the Brooky calendar. Our choir gave a beautiful performance of Over the Rainbow, adding a special touch to proceedings. A big thank you to everyone who helped organise the morning and to all who came along. A particular big thank you to our P&C President Hina Osmany and Treasurer, Rachita Bhatia for all their hard work behind the scenes.

On behalf of the staff, students and community we'd like to wish a very happy Mother’s Day to all the mums and carers in our community. Thank you for everything you do – you play such an important role in the lives of our students and in our school.

...and Happy Mother's Day, Mum! You're the best.

Sportspro lessons begin

This week, our students began their Sportspro lessons for Term 2, with a focus on athletics. Years 3 to 6 will be developing their skills in events such as running, jumping and throwing, while our Kindergarten to Year 2 students are working on fundamental movement skills alongside early athletics activities. It’s a great opportunity for all students to build their confidence, coordination and fitness in a fun and supportive environment.

School of Rock at NBSC Cromer

Our Stage 3 students had a fantastic time attending the production of School of Rock at NBSC Cromer Campus last week. The energy, talent and professionalism of the performers made it an incredibly entertaining experience, and our students were thoroughly engaged from start to finish. It was a wonderful showcase of what public education can offer, and a great opportunity for our students to see what’s possible as they move into high school. A big thank you to Cromer Campus for hosting us and putting on such an impressive show.

Project Penguin - Tuesday 13 May

Next week, our students will embark on Project Penguin with an engaging Habitat Day at Little Manly Beach. They will participate in a full-day excursion featuring expert guest speakers from organizations such as Taronga Zoo and National Parks and Wildlife. The day will include hands-on activities and discussions designed to deepen their understanding of penguin habitats and the importance of conservation. Students are encouraged to bring their own food and water, wear their sport uniform along with the Project Penguin T-shirt, and come prepared with a pencil and paper to take notes during the sessions. This immersive experience aims to inspire our young learners to become thoughtful stewards of the environment.

Band Camp - Friday 16 May

Next Friday, our Band members will be attending Band Camp at Camp Kedron in Ingleside. It will be a great opportunity for students to refine their pieces, receive expert tutoring, and take part in fun activities like rock climbing.

Changes to the Canteen in Term 2

A reminder that the canteen will only be open Wednesday to Friday this term and lunch orders will only be available through Flexi-schools on these days.

Winter School Uniform Changeover

A gentle reminder that from Monday 12 May, we will officially transition to winter uniform. All students are expected to be in full winter uniform from this date.

The winter uniform options are below. School hats must be worn everyday, regardless of weather.

What's been happening in our classrooms?

This week in Kindergarten, students have been exploring mass in mathematics by comparing the weight of different items. As part of this, they created and ordered blobs of playdough to represent the mass of the characters from the story Who Sank the Boat? In literacy, they’ve been learning to write simple sentences about the character Chip, drawing him in a variety of clever disguises and describing their illustrations with full sentences.

Stage 1 students have been busy building their writing skills by creating sentences with adverbial phrases, inspired by the story The March of the Ants. They are now researching an invertebrate using informative texts and creating fact-filled posters. Along the way, they’ve been learning to use features such as glossaries to expand their vocabulary and understanding of non-fiction texts.

In Stage 2, students have been investigating measurement by estimating and then building one-metre towers. These hands-on activities have helped them develop a clearer sense of length and scale. It’s been great to see students test their predictions and refine their measurement skills through trial and error.

Stage 3 have been diving into sentence structure this week, focusing on how noun and verb groups work together to build simple sentences and clauses. In addition to their literacy work, 5K have been challenging themselves with tricky maths problems and working on their 'What Matters' Writing Competition entries. The whole stage also showed great leadership and kindness by helping Stage 1 with their craft activities for the upcoming celebration.

Worker of the Week

Congratulations to Lupe in 5K who wrote an exceptional first draft of her 'What Matters' Competition  writing piece. Her piece shows her strong feelings towards connection to land, protecting the environment and how times have changed. Great work Lupe.

Premier’s Spelling Bee

We’re excited to announce that Brookvale Public School will once again participate in the Premier’s Spelling Bee this Term! This state-wide competition is open to all government, central, and community schools across NSW and features two divisions:

  • Senior Division – for students in Years 5 and 6

To select our representatives, all Stage 2 and Stage 3 classes will hold an in-class spelling competition in Week 8. The top four spellers from each class will then compete in a stage-level final in Week 9, where one winner from each stage will be chosen to represent Brookvale Public School at the regional level in Term 3.

Information on how to access the official word lists will be sent in a separate email and will be available on Google Classroom. We encourage you to support your child’s preparation by reviewing and practicing the word lists together.

Brookvale Public School Colour Run on Thursday 26 June 2025

Brookvale Public School P&C Association is excited to bring back the amazing Colour Fun Run Fundraiser!

On Thursday 26th June, students will be walking, running, skipping, or hopping to the finish line in a blast of colourful happiness.

We are excited to be raising money for:

  • The construction of a sheltered area in the carpark (to keep our children dry on rainy days!)
  • House flags for sports carnivals
  • A sick bay bed

Your efforts will help our P&C Association reach its 2025 fundraising goal of $30,000.

Registering your student is easy. Simply go to THIS LINK and follow the prompts to register your students or make a donation.

Once your student is registered, you can start your fundraising. You can send friends and family a link to kick-start your fundraising journey. The more you raise, the more chances you get to earn amazing prizes. Details on incentive prizes will be communicated by the P&C in the coming weeks.

We look forward to reaching our goal, building memories, and seeing the huge smiles on students’ faces (and teachers’ ).

These meetings are a great opportunity to engage directly with the school executive team, hear what’s happening in our school community, and learn more about what the P&C does - or how you can get involved.

All parents and carers are welcome to attend. You do not need to be a P&C member to join the meeting. However, if you’d like to become a member and receive meeting minutes, you can sign up via this link. Annual membership is just $2 per person.

Uniform Shop Information

The next uniform shop opening will be on Friday 30 May, from 2.45pm to 3.30pm.

The shop is accessible from the main car park and the pricelist is available on our Facebook page.

In the meantime, if you need uniform items, please email us with what you are after (quantity, size, etc.) and if available, we will leave your order at the school office for you to pick up and we will send you a link to pay online.

Donations to the uniform shop are also greatly appreciated. We encourage parents who have good quality uniforms their children have outgrown to drop off their items anytime at the school office or directly at the shop during opening hours.

Football Parking Volunteering

Each parking event requires 3 to 4 parent volunteers for 1h30 hours max (the car park is usually full within 45 minutes!). Tasks include collecting entry fees and directing cars to how and where to park. All instructions will be sent by text message prior to your shift (it’s all very easy!).

It is a valuable way for all parents to help the school and meet fellow parents at the same time.

To thank you for your time, you will get a free entry (general admission) to a Manly Sea Eagles home game of your choice.

Please visit our website to sign up to your preferred date.

The next date we need volunteers for is Friday 27 June from 4.30pm to 6.00pm
