Principal's Report

Proposed minor uniform change - have your say...

At the P&C meeting on Tuesday evening it was proposed that the yellow sports shirt be deleted and that the sports uniform would become the regular maroon school polo and maroon shorts/skirt, white sock and sneakers. This motion was passed unanimously.

Before we make any change the P&C wanted to gauge the feeling about the proposed changed with parents prior to a final decision being made. To have your say, could you please kindly vote in the very simple one question google survey by following the link below?

The question posed is 'Do you support the deletion of the yellow sports shirt?'.

Click here to go to the survey question.

Winter School Uniform Changeover

A friendly reminder that from Monday 12 May, Brookvale Public School will officially transition to winter uniform. All students are expected to wear full winter uniform from this date.

In our previous communication, we inadvertently suggested that long sleeves and long pants are required as part of the winter uniform. Please note, this is not the case. Students are welcome to wear shorts and the short-sleeved polo shirt year-round if they prefer. We have updated the flyer below to reflect this clarification.

I have also made the decision to rename the uniform choices as 'A' or 'B' to reflect our inclusive community values. Parents may choose which version of the uniform best suits their child.

The available winter uniform options are listed below. Please remember that school hats must be worn every day, regardless of the weather.

Building teacher excellence through peer feedback

One of the key focus areas in our School Excellence Plan is fostering clear and explicit feedback among teachers to support ongoing professional growth. This week, four of our dedicated teachers, guided by our Deputy Principal Mr Kieran Sly, participated in the first 'round' of Quality Teaching Rounds.

In this initial round, three teachers observed an outstanding sentence-level writing lesson in KH. Using the Quality Teaching Framework, they took detailed notes and later provided structured, constructive feedback to the teacher. It was a privilege to sit in on this session and witness both a high-quality lesson delivered by Miss Hansen and the rich professional dialogue that followed. The level of critical reflection and collegial support was truly impressive, setting a strong foundation for future rounds of this valuable initiative.

Cross Country Carnival success!

The Brookvale Public School Cross Country Carnival was a fantastic day filled with energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of personal bests. Every student gave their all, showing great determination and school spirit throughout the event. A big thank you to Mr Hurley and Mr Panesar for their outstanding effort and organisation, which made the day such a success!

Habitat Day at Little Manly & Collins Flat – Project Penguin in Action!

Our Project Penguin students had a truly inspiring and educational day at Little Manly and Collins Flat, diving deep into the wonders of our local ecosystems and the importance of protecting them. Students engaged in land mapping using natural features, investigated the effects of runoff on our waterways, and gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by our endangered Little Penguins. Through hands-on experiences such as rubbish collection and bush regeneration, they made meaningful contributions to habitat conservation while developing a strong sense of environmental stewardship. It was a powerful reminder of the impact young people can have in caring for our coastal environment.

Band Camp

Our students are having a fantastic time at Band Camp at Camp Kedron, Ingleside, today! They’re sounding incredible, learning a great deal with the support of skilled tutors, and really coming together as a team. It’s been wonderful to see them not only developing their musical talents but also enjoying a range of fun activities and building strong friendships along the way.

New Date for Poetry Around the Campfire Night - Thursday 19 June

As Mrs Murphy-Haste is still recovering form an accident she suffered in the holidays (she's okay), the decision has been made to postpone the Poetry Around the Campfire Night to Thursday 19 June. We look forward to a great night of poetry once Mrs Murphy-Haste's returns. I you haven't been to this quintessentially Brooky event, don't miss it. It is one of the most inspiring nights on the Brooky calendar.

Cultural Reference Group - Tuesday 20 May

The Cultural Reference Group (CRG) is a group of parents who meet with the principal once a term to plan cultural events and guide the school in recognising dates and cultural events with meaning to our community. The CRG will meet this Tuesday at 8.15am. Agenda items include support the Poetry Around the Campfire Night and planning a Cultural Feast day as part of our Open Day activities in Education Week in Term 3. Everyone is welcome to join the group. We would love to see you on Tuesday.

Enjoy Camp Stage 3!

We wish our Stage 3 students all the very best as they embark on their exciting adventure to the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Lake Macquarie from Monday next week. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to challenge themselves, build teamwork skills, and create lasting memories with their peers. We know they are eagerly looking forward to the fun, learning, and adventure that awaits!

Please note there has been an update to the departure time from school. Students will now need to be at school for 8.30am, the bus will depart at 9am, sharp. Information has been sent out regarding this.

What's been happening in our classrooms?

This week in Kindergarten, students have been diving into the concept of equivalence in mathematics through a series of creative zoo-themed challenges. One task involved designing two animal enclosures with an equal number of legs, encouraging students to think flexibly about numbers and problem-solving. In another challenge, they created food packages for zoo animals, carefully selecting two types of 'fruit' that added up to a total of ten items. In art, KH had the pleasure of working with Miss Foodey to create beautiful beach landscapes, inspired by their focus text Chip and the Beach, using oil pastels, glue, and real sand!

Our Stage 1 students stepped into the role of young scientists this week, exploring how light interacts with different materials. Through hands-on experiments, they discovered the properties of transparent, translucent, and opaque objects. It was a bright and illuminating experience, sparking plenty of curiosity and scientific discussion!

Stage 2 students have been exploring the properties of matter and how it can change between solid, liquid, and gas. Through hands-on learning, students experimented with a mixture of cornflour and water to investigate how materials can behave differently under pressure. The activity revealed that this non-Newtonian fluid acts like a solid when force is applied and flows like a liquid when left undisturbed, providing valuable insight into how some substances do not fit neatly into a single state of matter. Students in 3/4P also took part in engaging 'hot seat' activity in which they interviewed each other about a time they experienced success.

Students in 5K have been having an exciting week packed with language and mathematics adventures. They began by exploring the five different verb types in a dynamic morning lesson that got everyone involved. In maths, they tackled the 'Fairground Challenge', designing their own carnival games based on the concept of chance. Students calculated the theoretical probability of winning their games using fractions, decimals, and percentages, then ran 100 experimental trials to compare results. They showcased their data in creative graphs and tables, learning just how carnival games can be cleverly designed to keep us playing!

Stage 3 students embarked on an exciting journey to Antarctica - without even leaving the classroom! Acting as explorer-scientists, they worked in pairs to research fascinating topics such as Antarctic wildlife, extreme weather, sustainable living, and shelter design. They then presented their findings in imaginative and creative ways, demonstrating teamwork, inquiry, and a growing understanding of one of the most unique environments on Earth.

Wow, what a week!  I think its timely to thank all of our teachers for their continued dedication to making school life so full of quality learning experiences and opportunity. Thank you teachers and well done team!

Worker of the Week

This week, Ozzie in KH showed fantastic thinking during an activity exploring equivalence in the paddock! As the class worked on balancing the number of legs among different animals, Ozzie was challenged to figure out how many two-legged animals would equal the legs of one octopus. He then took on an even trickier task: how many four-legged animals would it take to equal the legs of two octopuses? At first, Ozzie exclaimed, “It’s impossible!”- but he didn’t give up. After taking time to think it through on his own, he had a brilliant “aha!” moment, proudly working out that it would take four four-legged animals to match the legs of two octopuses. Great perseverance and problem-solving, Ozzie!

Brookvale Public School Colour Run on Thursday 26 June 2025

Brookvale Public School P&C Association is excited to bring back the amazing Colour Fun Run Fundraiser!

On Thursday 26th June, students will be walking, running, skipping, or hopping to the finish line in a blast of colourful happiness.

We are excited to be raising money for:

  • The construction of a sheltered area in the carpark (to keep our children dry on rainy days!)
  • House flags for sports carnivals
  • A sick bay bed

Your efforts will help our P&C Association reach its 2025 fundraising goal of $30,000.

Registering your student is easy. Simply go to THIS LINK and follow the prompts to register your students or make a donation.

Once your student is registered, you can start your fundraising. You can send friends and family a link to kick-start your fundraising journey. The more you raise, the more chances you get to earn amazing prizes. Details on incentive prizes will be communicated by the P&C in the coming weeks.

We look forward to reaching our goal, building memories, and seeing the huge smiles on students’ faces (and teachers’ ).

Uniform Shop Information

The next uniform shop opening will be on Friday 30 May, from 2.45pm to 3.30pm.

The shop is accessible from the main car park and the pricelist is available on our Facebook page.

In the meantime, if you need uniform items, please email us with what you are after (quantity, size, etc.) and if available, we will leave your order at the school office for you to pick up and we will send you a link to pay online.

Donations to the uniform shop are also greatly appreciated. We encourage parents who have good quality uniforms their children have outgrown to drop off their items anytime at the school office or directly at the shop during opening hours.

Football Parking Volunteering

Each parking event requires 3 to 4 parent volunteers for 1h30 hours max (the car park is usually full within 45 minutes!). Tasks include collecting entry fees and directing cars to how and where to park. All instructions will be sent by text message prior to your shift (it’s all very easy!).

It is a valuable way for all parents to help the school and meet fellow parents at the same time.

To thank you for your time, you will get a free entry (general admission) to a Manly Sea Eagles home game of your choice.

Please visit our website to sign up to your preferred date.

The next date we need volunteers for is Friday 27 June from 4.30pm to 6.00pm
