Principal's Report

Kindergarten 2026 Transition to School Program

We’re excited to begin welcoming the newest members of our Brooky community! As we prepare for Kindergarten 2026, we look forward to supporting children and their families as they take their first steps into school life.

Our Transition to School Program kicks off with a Pre-School Open Day on Thursday, 5 June. Children who will be starting Kindergarten in 2026, along with their parents or carers, are invited to join us for a fun-filled morning featuring performances by our talented school band, choir, and dance group. Families will also have the chance to meet our school leaders, and children can enjoy games and activities led by our dedicated teachers.

Details of the full transition program are included in the flyer below.

We warmly invite parents and children to attend the Open Day and all upcoming transition events. Parents can register for the event by scanning the QR code on the flyer.

If you know of any families in the community with children starting school next year, please help spread the word by sharing this information with them. We can’t wait to meet our future Brooky students.

BPS Transition to School and Open Day

Great Aussie Bush Camp

Our Stage 3 students had an unforgettable time at the Great Aussie Bush Camp! Over three action-packed days, they embraced thrilling challenges like the Giant Swing, Dual Flying Fox, and Power Fan, pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones. Teamwork and problem-solving were at the heart of activities such as archery, rock climbing, and orienteering. Evenings were just as exciting, featuring the Challenges Night and the lively County Fair. Despite some truly terrible weather, the students remained super positive throughout - our staff remarked to me throughout the camp that it was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and energy shine through the rain! A big congratulations to all of them for their outstanding resilience and spirit. They’ve certainly made memories that will last a lifetime. Get the full muddy story and more photos in the section below.

Project Penguin Continues

Stage 2 students were excited to welcome their high school mentors from Cromer Campus as part of their Project Penguin journey. It was wonderful to see the older students guiding and supporting the younger ones with such care, encouragement, and enthusiasm. The collaboration really helped spark creative ideas and gave Stage 2 a great boost in planning their projects. A big thank you to Cromer Campus for sharing such outstanding students - what fantastic role models they are! Next week, our students get to go to Taronga Zoo to further their understanding.

Harold's back...

We have been excited to welcome Harold and the Life Education team to our school this week as students began their Life Ed journey. Over the coming days, each stage will take part in engaging and age-appropriate lessons that support their health and wellbeing. Kindergarten will enjoy Harold’s Friend Ship, where they’ll learn about making friends, managing emotions, and seeking help when needed. Stage 1 will explore Harold’s Online World, focusing on staying safe and respectful both online and offline. Stage 2 will take part in Friends and Feelings, learning about friendship, tricky conversations, and emotional regulation. Stage 3 will dive into Relate, Respect, Connect, which explores how to build positive, respectful relationships and make informed choices during times of change. We can’t wait to see the valuable lessons and discussions these sessions will bring!

Please ensure that the student permission note is submitted via the School Bytes portal.

Best of luck to our Debating Team

Our school debating team takes on local rivals Narraweena on Thursday in their first debate as part of the Premier's Debating Challenge. Students have been practising hard and can't wait to put their developing oratory skills into action. We wish our team of Isla H, Clio H, Sage R and Taj SG, all the best for the debate.

Supporting Your Child With Reading Parent Workshop

We are currently planning a parent workshop focused on supporting children’s reading development at home. To ensure the session is relevant and helpful, we’re inviting families to share their preferences and areas of interest through a short survey.

Your feedback will help us shape a session that supports your child’s reading journey in meaningful and practical ways. Please use the link below to complete the short survey.

New Date for Poetry Around the Campfire Night - Thursday 19 June

Another quick reminder that we have postponed the Poetry Around the Campfire Night to Thursday 19 June. If you haven't been to this quintessentially Brooky event, don't miss it. It is one of the most inspiring nights on the Brooky calendar. Pop it in your calendars and come along.

Sports Shirts

Thank your for your participation in last week's vote on the future of the yellow sports shirts. 57.5% of respondents indicated they would like the deletion of the yellow sports shirt, compared to 42.5% who indicated they would rather the shirt be retained. The results of the survey will be considered by the P&C at the next meeting in Week 8, prior to a final decision being made.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data for students with a disability

The school is currently engaged in colleting data for the annual Nationally Consistent Collection of Data for students with a disability. This is a mandatory process for all schools. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

NCCD Fact Sheet For Parents, Guardians And Carers

What's been happening in our classrooms?

Kindergarten students have been busy developing their writing skills by focusing on simple sentence construction and using their Six Star Writing Checklist. They earn stars for including capital letters, full stops, noun and verb groups, "bubble-gum words" to stretch out sounds, and finger spaces. After each writing session, students use a rubric to reflect on their work and celebrate their progress. In Mathematics, they have been learning about data displays, creating their own graphs, and ensuring the information is accurately represented.

In Mathematics, Stage 1 students have been learning how to collect, organise, and interpret data using visual displays. This has helped them identify patterns and describe trends, while also beginning to use data to predict the likelihood of everyday events. In English, students have been exploring Rosie’s Walk by Pam Hutchins, focusing on how authors sequence events to build suspense and reaction. Through drama and role-play, students have acted out the story and explored character perspectives, helping them deepen their understanding of key events and emotions in the text.

Stage 2 has been measuring up to the challenge in Mathematics, focusing on using formal units of measurement with an emphasis on centimetres. They have been using rulers accurately, comparing lengths, and applying measurement skills to real-world tasks. In English, students have been working on descriptive writing, using expanded noun groups and precise verbs to bring their stories to life. They have also been exploring how to structure paragraphs effectively and use cohesive devices to link their ideas. Across other learning areas, students have engaged in inquiry-based activities that encourage problem-solving and collaboration.

Stage 3 students have taken a deep dive into the concepts of probability and chance. Through real-world examples and hands-on experiments, they explored how the total probability of all possible outcomes equals 1. They represented outcomes using fractions and critically examined the language of chance, debating the meaning of words like “likely,” “possible,” and “almost certain.” A highlight of the week was learning the Aussie expression “Buckley’s or none!”—a humorous way to say something has almost no chance at all!

Worker of the Week

Jack W in KF impressed us all with his fantastic six-star writing this week. He wrote an amazing sentence about sharks that showed great creativity and skill. Well done, Jack - you are our well-deserved Worker of the Week!

Great Aussie Bush Camp

Stage 3 had the most fantastic time away at camp! Despite being greeted with some wild and windy weather, spirits stayed high and the enthusiasm never wavered. Our students showed incredible teamwork, resilience, and Brooky pride as they tackled towering giant swings, high ropes, and the exhilarating power fan, along with swampy terrain challenges like archery, pioneering, initiatives, and bushcraft. The undeniable highlight? Rolling gleefully through the mud- sorry in advance for those mountains of laundry, parents! We were so proud of every student for giving it their all and embracing every part of the experience. We’re already looking forward to our next adventure together.

Love, the Stage 3 teachers (currently defrosting with long, hot showers!)

Brookvale Public School Colour Run on Thursday 26 June 2025

Brookvale Public School P&C Association is excited to bring back the amazing Colour Fun Run Fundraiser!

On Thursday 26th June, students will be walking, running, skipping, or hopping to the finish line in a blast of colourful happiness.

We are excited to be raising money for:

  • The construction of a sheltered area in the carpark (to keep our children dry on rainy days!)
  • House flags for sports carnivals
  • A sick bay bed

Your efforts will help our P&C Association reach its 2025 fundraising goal of $30,000.

Registering your student is easy. Simply go to THIS LINK and follow the prompts to register your students or make a donation.

Once your student is registered, you can start your fundraising. You can send friends and family a link to kick-start your fundraising journey. The more you raise, the more chances you get to earn amazing prizes. Details on incentive prizes will be communicated by the P&C in the coming weeks.

We look forward to reaching our goal, building memories, and seeing the huge smiles on students’ faces (and teachers’ ).

Uniform Shop Information

The next uniform shop opening will be on Friday 30 May, from 2.45pm to 3.30pm.

The shop is accessible from the main car park and the pricelist is available on our Facebook page.

In the meantime, if you need uniform items, please email us with what you are after (quantity, size, etc.) and if available, we will leave your order at the school office for you to pick up and we will send you a link to pay online.

Donations to the uniform shop are also greatly appreciated. We encourage parents who have good quality uniforms their children have outgrown to drop off their items anytime at the school office or directly at the shop during opening hours.

Football Parking Volunteering

Each parking event requires 3 to 4 parent volunteers for 1h30 hours max (the car park is usually full within 45 minutes!). Tasks include collecting entry fees and directing cars to how and where to park. All instructions will be sent by text message prior to your shift (it’s all very easy!).

It is a valuable way for all parents to help the school and meet fellow parents at the same time.

To thank you for your time, you will get a free entry (general admission) to a Manly Sea Eagles home game of your choice.

Please visit our website to sign up to your preferred date.

The next date we need volunteers for is Friday 27 June from 4.30pm to 6.00pm
