Got it Parent Workshop - Big Worries, Small Steps: Tackling Childhood Anxiety Together

Last year the school partnered with NSW Health to provide a series of seminars for parents and teachers on emotion coaching to support more effective communication between parents and kids at home. These were very well received. Our partnership is sadly coming to a close but before it does the team at Got it! have very kindly agreed to support our parent community with one more FREE workshop for parents on how to support students at home with big feelings of worry and anxiety. I know this is a topic that will be of benefit to many families.

Parents will learn how to recognise the signs of anxiety, understand what's developmentally typical and discover effective strategies to respond and help their child navigate their worries with confidence. I would highly recommend that all parents come along to this as the strategies covered will be applicable to all students at some point in their childhood, teen years and early adulthood.

A note has been sent home via Schoolbytes today. Please sign up for the workshop by clicking using the link in the note.

Recognition Assembly

Congratulations to all students who received Silver Awards at yesterday's Recognition Assembly for demonstrating our school's values of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. A huge congratulations to these students.

A big pat on the back also to students who received their place ribbons for having the three fastest times in each division at the School Swimming Carnival last week.

Please enjoy the photos below of students recognised at yesterday's assembly.

NAPLAN begins - Wednesday 12 March

In just over a week, students in Years 3 and 5 will undertake NAPLAN assessments. The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) provides the school and parents with valuable information about student learning progress in literacy and numeracy, compared to students across the country.

NAPLAN will take place from Wednesday 12 March to Friday 21 March in 2025.

Teachers of students in Years 3 and 5 are busy getting students ready for NAPLAN. Teachers are currently supporting students  become familiar with the types of questions in the tests and the online testing platform that we use.

Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN.  Parents can support their child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program.

Students that are absent will complete catch up tests on their return to school.

Adjustments are available for students who have diverse functional abilities and needs. On a case-by-case basis, reasonable adjustments for individual students can be made so they can complete NAPLAN. Your child's teacher will arrange these support if required. Should you wish to discuss these supports, please contact your child's teacher this week.

What's been happening in our classrooms?

This week in mathematics, Kindergarten students have begun to explore repeating patterns. Student have been busy identifying the core pattern and then copying, continuing and repeating the pattern using various stimulus and manipulatives.

It seems patterns are everywhere at Brooky this week with Stage 1 students also extending their understanding of patterns. Specifically, students in Year 1 and 2 have learned how to label patterns as AB, ABB, ABC and ABCD based on their parts that repeat.

Place value has been the order of the week in Stage 2. Year 3 and 4 students have been learning how the position of a digit determines it value in a number. Students created, recorded and explained the value of three-digit numbers, strengthening their number sense and mathematical reasoning.

5K have been getting right into characterisation this week, developing sociograms to show how the connections between characters assist in developing the plot and the cohesion of the storyline. They also created magnificent self-portrait artworks as a book cover for their unit on 'Wonder'. Check them out in the gallery.

In writing, Stage 3 students have been learning about adverbial phrases and how they can be used to add detail to a verb or verb group to enhance their writing. In library, students learnt about the Lunar New Year and The Year of the Snake. While in  gymnastics lessons students loved learning lots of new skills, on each apparatus in the gymnasium.

State Cup Excitement!

A huge congratulations to Nathaniel and his team for winning the U10 boy’s age group at the State Cup! Beating 22 teams and playing 12 games over 3 days is an incredible achievement. This Sunday, they’ll face Cronulla in the final showdown for the overall State Championship in Tempe.

Van and Levi also had an amazing run, representing Manly Warringah at the Junior State Cup for Touch Football in Dubbo. They played 11 games over 3 days in temperatures between 30-35°C. Despite the tough conditions, they made it all the way to the  Grand Final but unfortunately lost in a hard-fought match.

Congratulations to all of you! What an amazing effort from everyone!

Calling for Donations – Support Our School!

As a small school with limited resources, the P&C works hard to make every event and every dollar count, raising much-needed funds to benefit all our children. To continue making a meaningful impact, we’re calling on our wonderful community for donations—whether in the form of physical products, gift vouchers, or services.

If you own or work for a business, or know someone who might be willing to contribute, we would greatly appreciate your support. Donations can be for adults or kids and will be used either as raffle prizes or as rewards for the Colour Run Fundraising campaign launching in Term 2.

Every contribution, big or small, helps us create better opportunities and experiences for our children. If you can help, please send us an email we’d love to hear from you!

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.

Football Parking Volunteering

We are fortunate to be in close proximity to Brookvale Oval. During the Manly Sea Eagles home games, the P&C utilises the school car park for fundraising by charging the general public for parking spots. This stands as a significant fundraising initiative for the school and is an easily accessible volunteering opportunity.

Each parking event requires 3 to 4 parent volunteers for 1h30 hours max (the car park is usually full within 45 minutes!). Tasks include collecting entry fees and directing cars to how and where to park. All instructions will be sent by text message prior to your shift (it’s all very easy!).

It is a valuable way for all parents to help the school and meet fellow parents at the same time.

To thank you for your time, you will get a free entry (general admission) to a Manly Sea Eagles home game of your choice.

Please visit our website to sign up to your preferred date.

Uniform Shop – Term 1 Opening Dates

In term 1, the P&C second-hand uniform shop will be open on:

  • Friday 28th February from 2.45am to 3.30pm
  • Wednesday 26th March from 8.15am to 9am

It is accessible from the main car park and the price list is available on our Facebook page

If you cannot make it to the uniform shop, please send an email to brookvalepublicschool.pc@gmail.com with what you are after and if available, we will leave your order at the school office for you to pick up and we will send you a link to pay online.

Birthday Shout Out!

Wishing a happy birthday to all our students celebrating in February!
